Semiotics, (or Semiotic Studies) is the study of meaning-making, the study of sign process and meaningful communication. It explores the study of signs and symbols as a significant part of communications, for example, when somebody who doesn't know the language of the country they are in, the signs can help them to understand where danger is or whatever the sign is showing. Semiotics was defined by one of its founders, the Swiss linguist Ferdinand de Sassure, as the study of "the life signs within society". However the word was also was used in this sense in the 17th century by the English philosopher John Locke. Below are some examples of semiotics that I found on the internet.
